The tools listed can vary by the type of task you are working on.
Some important tools will always show, like Sanity Check, Playblast and Publish.

These tools are split up in categories and each tab represents a category.

General Tools

Sanity Check

This tool provides scene checks to ensure you are working with correct data and are outputting correct data.

image-20260403-110012.png

The sanity check also runs in the background during important steps of the pipeline like submitting for render, publishing, ... So if it pops up while using another tool, it means something is wrong and you should fix it before you can continue.

By default the items in the tool will be gray. When a sanity check result is ok, it will appear green, otherwise it will color red (error) or orange (warning). When it appears red, you will need to fix it. When orange, the choice is up to you. Usually orange means it would normally need to be fixed, but because that sanity check is not strict, it could be that you don't want that specific setting (for instance project resolution forcing in case of special shots that need a different resolution).

At the top of the window you can find explanations on how to use the tool.

  • To fix a single sanity check, press the button. After that, the sanity check should be green.

  • When right clicking separate items, you have the choice to run the selected one, or to run all or to reset.

  • By clicking Check all at the bottom, everything will be checked but not fixed.

  • By clicking Fix blocking (errors only) at the bottom, only the red items will be fixed automatically. Be careful, this might not always be wanted. Some items should be fixed manually if you see that the auto fix does not do what you expected from it.

  • By clicking Fix all (errors and warnings) at the bottom, everything will be fixed automatically.

When all lights are green, you can head to the next step.

Playblast

When the playblast button is clicked, a window pops up.

This tool allows you to make a image sequence playblast. At the moment this tool is very rudementary and will make a turntable playblast of your active view.

Publish

This tool is used to publish your work to ftrack to be reviewed.

image-20260403-111158.png

In the left part of the tool will be a list of actions that will be executed when publishing this scene.

These actions should be left alone in most cases.

On the right, you have the Publish choice, at the moment only Local is available. Other options like Deadline will be implemented.

Next, you can select the status that the task on ftrack should change to. You can choose between Pending Review and In Progress.

In most cases, you publish your work because you want it to be reviewed, so by default the status is set to Pending Review.

Finally, there is a description text box to fill with what you did, to give the reviewers more information about the publish and the work done.

When everything is set and filled in, press the publish button and the window will disappear when the process is sent to the farm, or when the process is started (Local Batch) or done (Local). You can also cancel or close the window if you don't want to proceed.

When cancelling a publish, you will need to increment your version before you can publish again.

When publishing, a review movie will be uploaded to ftrack and the server (inside the reviews folder of your asset/shot). Your review will also be added to the list of today's dailies on ftrack.

Asset Tools

Asset Browser

The Asset Browser window is structured into 2 parts.

The left part matches the hierarchy of the project’s assets structures. You can expand the folders to find the asset you want to import.

The right part is where you’ll be able to see and select the assets individually or select all the assets in the list by type. You can see the total amount of asset selected next to the Import button.
