What are actions?

Actions are what you use to launch any program, process, script, … in the SYNK pipeline. They are launched from the ftrack web interface in multiple ways:

In the Project hierarchy view, travel to the task you want to work on and right click it. A drop-down menu will appear. Click on Actions.

You can also click on the task itself and in the window on the right, click on the little rocket.

Make sure to launch actions from a Task, not an Asset Variant, Asset Folder, or any other object.

In the My Tasks view, you can hover over a task and click the little A icon.

In ftrack connect, you will have to select the action context you’ll be working in, browse to your task and click directly on the action.

Whichever way you use, you will always be confronted with a window listing all available actions for the selected task:

When there are multiple versions of software found on your workstation, there will be a drop down when you click the action with the found versions.

The actions to launch programs with the pipeline of the project will have SYNK in front on the name. Actions without SYNK in the name are general actions provided by ftrack, but they will not launch the pipeline!

If you see the same action twice (for example: SYNK Maya - 2024), make sure you are logged in to ftrack connect on only one workstation. To log out, see Ftrack connect.

General

General Publisher

This tool will allow you to batch publish files to ftrack, using various ways of translating the filename to hierarchy structure.
It is a pretty complex tool, for a more thorough guide click here.

Build

A build action is available for Modeling, Rigging and Anim Prep. This action will launch a build on Deadline and publish it with a render.

The Build Modeling and Rigging actions can be launched from any folder in the library hierarchy (Folder, Asset Folder, Asset Variant), and will build all the modeling tasks that are available within the hierarchy (downwards).

The Modeling build will create a new scene with a cube 1x1x1 in a pipeline defined structure. (same behaviour as when done from within maya itself)

The Rig build will create a new scene with the latest published modeling version, a bone with all anim geometry skinned to it, and two main controllers.

The Build Anim Prep action can be launched from any folder in the shots hierarchy (Reel, Sequence, Shot), and will build all the tasks that are available within the hierarchy (downwards).

It will build a new scene with all latest published caches and cameras from Layout, the animatic, the latest published audio, and it will reference the rigs of the assets linked to the shot.

All of these build tasks can also be launched from a custom made list of asset variants/shots.
