What’s the Context Publish Tool?
This tool was introduced to publish files that were created outside of the pipeline to specific ftrack tasks.
Overview
The Context Publish Tool be launched from several Task Types on Ftrack and has multiple input possibilites:
Audio (.wav)
Design (photoshop + other) (psd, images)
Grooming (blender + other) (blend, fbx, abc, images)
Sculpting (zbrush + other) (ztl, fbx, abc, images)
After launching the action, the tool window will open, where you can select the source file you want to publish (press the folder icon).
This will open a file browser with the available extensions to publish as source.
Based on the task you want to publish to, you will be able to add other exports and a reviewable.
Same procedure as above: you will be able to select the files through a file browser.
It is possible to add multiple exports, but beware that files of the same filetype will clash as they are renamed to the same filename at the moment. It is possible to add both an fbx and an alembic for instance.
Once you’ve added all the files you want, press the Publish button. Files will be renamed and copied to the wanted location on the server and then published.
You will then see a progress bar appear in the tool. Once everything is published a popup will notify you. On failure, a popup will also notify you. (a log file is also created and can be used to debug the situation)
On ftrack you can view your publishes in the Versions tab.
